Doing it Right - The Fundamentals of Better Diving

Doing it Right - The Fundamentals of Better Diving

Pretty much the first book to get for DIR/GUE interested divers, it offers an abundance of background information on how to rig your dive kit, why things are done the way they are in DIR/GUE and offers an extremely valuable input for novice divers on how to improve their safety, trim and overall diving skills.

Some concepts, such as using a long-hose, are obviously not unique to DIR/GUE, but the explanation for and against ways of doing things in a certain way are mostly very logical and make sense even to the novice diver when given some thought.

It should be mentioned that some of the writing style is not the very best on the market, the book not surprisingly recommends Halcyon gear throughout, and the new reader should be aware that there are other options out there which are just as good and sometimes better (AGIR-Brokk, TillyTec and mb-sub all produce exceptionally good primary and backup lights as well, Dive-Rite, AGIR-Brokk and other manufacturers of wings and backplates may just do the trick as well etc.)

It would be good to see this book in an updated version, because surely things move forward and have changed a bit on the equipment side (heck, even Poseidon X-Stream's now take standard hoses(!), or Miflex hoses can be used, which surely are the better option out there nowadays), and LED lights have in some cases surpassed the HID and halogen lights etc.).

Note: The image below links to Amazon.com, you might want to check the price on GUE's Website as occasionally the Amazon price has been way overpriced in this case. It should retail for about $15 only.
