UEMIS Zurich SDA
Update: Unfortunately, whilst we have two of these amazing computers and are incredibly satisfied, the company could not make ends meet and filed for bankruptcy in 2011. Hopefully some other developers will take on the task to develop the software further, and also to crucially allow for local use of the dive profile data.
UEMIS SDA was a product offering several great features in a consumer dive computer. An OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) based display offered one of the best readabilities of any dive computer. The advantage of OLED is that it offers high contrast and excellent readability from all angles, and is constantly "lit up". You might think it is no big deal to press a backlight button on your current dive computer, but when you are for example doing a rescue diver course and getting someone up from dark waters, your hands are sort of busy already without fumbling for the backlight button. Also, it just generally makes for a more relaxed diving if it is "always on". It requires less battery than lighting up a traditional LC-Display as well.
The solar charging function should be taken with a bit of salt. It works, but it requires you are in control of your dive site gear at all times. If you are on a boat with just your friends, fine. On a busy charter, not so much. But in essence as it charges through standard Mini-USB, that is the thing you should be using. Coupled with either your laptop, or a mobile-phone recharger, or a proper solar-panel like the Powermonkey, you are good to go all the time. Battery times when fully charged, are very good indeed.
The buttons are super-easy to operate with gloves on, something I can't claim of many devices.
We'll put some images up later on, as described at the top, unfortunately this great device is no longer being produced by UEMIS.
